OUR HISTORY

Kuiper Siberians (pronounced "Kyper," like the Kuiper Belt) is owned by Demi Flowers. We are located in Central Ohio in the United States of America.

Growing up, I had always admired the breed and their purpose. I have vivid memories of hooking up my childhood chow mix to anything and everything to pull me on. Westminster and the National Dog Show were some of my favorite times of the year as I loved watching all the beautiful dogs on the TV. For my 17th birthday, my parents indulged my life-long dream and bought me a Siberian Husky and she changed my life forever. Piper inspired me to start dryland mushing and with that, I truly fell in love with the breed. Dyland mushing opened many other doors to other fun sports and eventually conformation. I had realized that I could show my dogs like those people I grew up watching on TV and that was my next big goal.

In early 2018, I attended my first dog show to start learning and getting to know our breed community. Many wonderful people offered me dogs to show, encouragement, and advice. After a few years of learning, I brought home Fen, my first show/sport/breeding prospect. She is my dream come true in so many ways. I was very particular with what I wanted in my foundation: amazing temperament, good health, biddability, mushing drive, and sound movement; all of which she supplies!

We are still early in our journey but are excited for what is to come.

About: About

OUR PHILOSOPHY

As a breeder, my goal is to produce healthy, temperamentally and conformational sound, biddable workers. Prior to breeding, I strive to prove the quality of my dogs through health testing, conformation dog shows, various performance and companion sports, and mushing.

My dogs are health tested to CHIC standards, for Siberian Huskies this includes hip x-rays to rule out hip dysplasia and eye examinations by an ACVO certified ophthalmologist in efforts to help prevent heritable eye diseases.

I show my dogs in AKC Dog Shows to their Champion title at a minimum. I do this to get an outside perspective from experts in the breed to verify my dogs are conformationally sound and of breeding quality. At dog shows, a judge evaluates each dog in the ring and awards dogs based on how much they believe the dogs conform to the written standard.

I also strive to prove my dogs in harness to ensure their original purpose is being upheld: dog sledding. To me, a Siberian is first and foremost a sled dog. What is a Siberian Husky if they cannot perform in harness? I have recreationally mushed my dogs for longer than I have been showing dogs as this aspect of the breed is what made me fall in love with them. At this time, I mostly attend dryland races due to having a smaller team. Though occasionally I am able to get them out on snow with the help of my friends.

Lastly, I also participate in various companion and performance sports. I strive to obtain at least a CGC (Canine Good Citizen title) on every breeding dog to help prove their wonderful temperment. Currently, we have competed in Fast CATs, CATs, Barn Hunt, and Trick Dog. I am also getting into agility and rally to further enjoy my dogs and prove their biddability.
